Shorts 360

The Shorts 360 handles the smallest end of Los Angeles air freight, moving palletized loads on short regional sectors out of Ontario or LAX. A boxy, unpressurized turboprop freighter built for volume rather than speed.

Short Brothers built the 360 as a stretched regional turboprop with a square-section fuselage, and the freighter versions exploit that shape: the flat floor and constant cross-section take standard pallets efficiently. Two Pratt and Whitney PT6A-65 engines and around 1,000 nautical miles of range in the cargo role. Every Shorts 360 we arrange flies with an operator certificated under FAR Part 135, the FAA rules for on-demand, for-hire charter.

Why the Shorts 360 Fits Los Angeles

The square fuselage is the point. A round-section aircraft wastes volume around a square pallet, and on light, bulky freight out of Los Angeles that geometry decides the load more often than the weight limit does.

This is a short-sector aircraft: the western states, the Mexican border, feeder legs into a larger hub at Ontario. It is not a transcontinental freighter and we would not quote it as one.

Ontario is the field that suits it. The airport runs 24 hours with no curfew, which for a freight operation working to an overnight delivery deadline is the whole reason cargo concentrates there rather than at LAX.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Industry hourly rates for the Shorts 360 run $1,800 to $2,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

The Shorts 360 quotes lowest of any freighter on this site, which on a short Los Angeles regional run makes it the economical choice for a load that does not fill a jet.
