Long range jets are what make Los Angeles a Pacific Rim departure point rather than a domestic one. Eleven to nineteen seats, 5,200 to 7,000 nautical miles, and cruise speeds around Mach 0.80 to 0.85. These are the aircraft that fly the routes this city’s international business actually runs.
Typical Aircraft
The Gulfstream G650 reaches furthest at 7,000 nautical miles and cruises fastest at 488 knots. The G550 offers nearly the range with a much deeper charter fleet, and the G500 brings the newest cabin. Bombardier’s Global Express, 5000, 5500 and 6000 cover the same ground at Mach 0.85, and the three-engine Dassault Falcon 7X and 8X add short-field ability no rival in the category has.
When Long Range Jets Fit the Los Angeles Trip
Los Angeles to London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Dubai and the South American capitals. Whether any specific pairing works nonstop depends on payload, winds and the operator’s own planning, so we have them run the actual date rather than quoting a maximum from a table.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Charter Pricing Reference
Across the 17 long range jets listed on this page, industry hourly rates run $10,000 to $18,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Each aircraft page carries its own rate. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.
Los Angeles Patterns We Plan Around
Awards season runs January through March and it is the single biggest pressure on Southern California charter availability. Van Nuys and Hollywood Burbank get picked over first, and a January request made in December is a very different market from the same request made on the day. Coachella in April does the same thing to Palm Springs. Van Nuys operates a jet noise curfew for louder aircraft between roughly 10pm and 7am, while Ontario runs 24 hours with no curfew, which is why so many late departures end up there.
International legs are shaped as much by clearance arrangements at both ends as by the aircraft, and we confirm which fields work for the specific routing rather than assuming a departure airport. Lead time matters more in this category than any other, and during awards season a Gulfstream G650 request is the one most likely to come back with limited options.
