The Beech Baron 58 is a twin-piston aircraft that does the short Los Angeles work no jet is sensible for. Four passengers to Santa Barbara, Catalina Island or the high desert, at a fraction of what a turboprop would cost for the same twenty minutes in the air.
Beechcraft has built the Baron 58 since 1970 as a six-seat cabin-class twin with two Continental piston engines, club seating and double rear doors. Cruise is around 200 knots and range is 1,480 nautical miles, though almost nothing it flies in this region uses more than a fraction of that. Every Beech Baron 58 we arrange flies with an operator certificated under FAR Part 135, the FAA rules for on-demand, for-hire charter.

Why the Beech Baron 58 Fits Los Angeles
Catalina is the trip this aircraft exists for around Los Angeles. The Airport in the Sky above Avalon caps aircraft at 12,500 pounds, bars jets outright and operates in daylight only, which rules out most of the fleet on this site and leaves piston twins and light turboprops. Whether a specific Baron and operator are approved for that runway is the operator’s confirmation, and we get it in writing before the trip is sold.
The double rear doors are a small detail that keeps coming up. Loading dive gear, camera cases or a folded wheelchair into a Baron is straightforward where it is awkward in a single-door aircraft, and for a Catalina day trip that is most of the practical difference.
The other regular pattern is Ventura County and the high desert: Camarillo, Oxnard, Chino and Apple Valley. Apple Valley sits at roughly 3,062 feet of elevation, where density altitude on a hot afternoon is a real performance factor for a piston twin and the crew plans the departure time around it.

Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
