Cessna Citation M2

The Citation M2 replaced the CJ1 at the bottom of Cessna’s jet range, and out of Los Angeles it is the entry-level aircraft with the most modern flight deck. Six or seven seats, 404 knots and 1,550 nautical miles, which is the longest reach in this category.

Cessna built the M2 on the CJ1+ airframe with Williams FJ44-1AP-21 engines and the Garmin G3000 touchscreen flight deck. Six to seven seats, 404 knots, 1,550 nautical miles and single-pilot certification. Every Cessna Citation M2 we arrange flies with an operator certificated under FAR Part 135, the FAA rules for on-demand, for-hire charter.

Why the Cessna Citation M2 Fits Los Angeles

That 1,550-nautical-mile range is what separates the M2 from the rest of this category. Los Cabos, Mexico, Denver, Seattle and the Texas cities come into reach nonstop with a light payload where a Mustang or an Eclipse would be planning a stop out of Van Nuys.

The G3000 flight deck matters less to passengers than to availability. It is a current-production aircraft, so the Southern California charter fleet is younger and better supported than the older very light jets, which shows up as fewer last-minute substitutions during awards season between January and March.

Six or seven seats is still the honest ceiling, and with a full cabin the range comes down. For a Los Angeles group of six with luggage heading to Colorado we would price a CJ3 alongside it.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Industry hourly rates for the Cessna Citation M2 run $3,000 to $4,200 per hour as of 7/2026. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

The Citation M2 quotes at the top of the entry-level band, close to a light jet, and the extra over a Mustang buys range and a newer airframe rather than cabin.
