Challenger 604

The Challenger 604 is the aircraft that made this family the default wide-cabin heavy jet, and it is one of the most requested aircraft on the Los Angeles market. Nine to twelve passengers, 4,000 nautical miles and a cabin wide enough to walk down without turning sideways.

Bombardier improved the 601 with a new wing, greater fuel capacity and updated systems to create the 604. Nine to twelve seats, 459 knots and 4,000 nautical miles of range, on the same wide flat-floor cabin the family is known for.

Why the Challenger 604 Fits Los Angeles

Four thousand nautical miles is the number that makes this a genuine Los Angeles workhorse. New York, Miami, the Caribbean and much of northern South America go nonstop with a working payload, and unlike the earlier Challengers the westbound return does not usually force a stop into the plan.

Some Challenger 604 operators can provide a wheelchair lift for boarding, which is why this aircraft comes up so often in accessible travel requests. It is an operator-by-operator arrangement rather than a standing feature of the type, so we confirm it for the specific aircraft and date before it goes on a quote.

The charter fleet is deep, which is what keeps this aircraft available when awards season between January and March strips Van Nuys of options in the heavy category. Depth is worth as much as any specification when the date will not move.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Industry hourly rates for the Challenger 604 run $7,500 to $9,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

The Challenger 604 quotes mid-band for heavy jets, and for a Los Angeles transcontinental group of ten it is normally the most available aircraft that does it nonstop.
