Inland Empire trips often work best through Ontario International (ONT), which runs 24 hours with no curfew and has the runway length for heavy aircraft. The variables that determine the right aircraft are trip distance, the number of passengers, baggage volume, and aircraft and runway performance. A same-day round trip to Las Vegas, Phoenix, or the Bay Area sits comfortably in a light or midsize jet. Transcontinental meeting days to New York, Chicago, or Washington usually call for a super-midsize or heavy aircraft so the leg goes nonstop in both directions. Los Angeles Patterns We Plan Around
Late returns are where a Los Angeles meeting day gets interesting. Van Nuys restricts departures by noisier jets overnight, roughly 10 PM to 7 AM, and asks operators to avoid late-night flying through a voluntary program. Hollywood Burbank keeps a voluntary night curfew of its own, but charter flights are not bound by it, which often makes Burbank the workable option when a meeting runs long on the far end.
Orange County works differently again. John Wayne applies stricter noise limits at night rather than closing to general aviation altogether, so a late arrival there is a question of which aircraft, not whether you can come in at all.
