Gulfstream 4 / IV / SP / 400 / 450

The Gulfstream IV is the aircraft that set the standard for intercontinental business travel, and it is still one of the most capable heavy jets available in Los Angeles. Fourteen to sixteen passengers, 4,220 nautical miles and a large cabin built for long days.

Gulfstream built the IV with Rolls-Royce Tay engines, a new wing and a glass flight deck, replacing the Spey-powered III. Fourteen to sixteen seats, 459 knots and 4,220 nautical miles of range. The later G450 evolved the design further with more range again. Full specifications for the Gulfstream IV are published by Gulfstream Aerospace.

Why the Gulfstream IV Fits Los Angeles

Longest range in this category, and from Los Angeles that is what it is for. New York, Miami, Hawaii, northern South America and much of the Pacific come into range with a working payload, and the westbound transcontinental return does not need a stop planned into it.

The Tay engines are quieter and far more efficient than the Speys on the II and III, which removes most of the noise-curfew friction that shapes late departures from Van Nuys and Long Beach for the older Gulfstreams.

Whether the aircraft on offer is a GIV, a GIV-SP or a G450 changes the range materially, and the fleet data on this site combines them. We confirm the specific variant and have the operator plan the actual routing before anything is quoted as nonstop.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Industry hourly rates for the Gulfstream IV run $7,500 to $10,000 per hour as of 7/2026. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

The Gulfstream IV quotes at the top of the heavy-jet band, and for a Los Angeles group of fifteen going the full distance nonstop it is usually the aircraft that makes it possible.
