Bell 407

The Bell 407 is the single-engine helicopter that does most of the routine Los Angeles work. Six seats, a four-blade rotor that keeps the cabin noticeably smoother than older designs, and 133 knots of cruise.

Bell built the 407 on the OH-58D dynamic system, pairing a Rolls-Royce 250-C47B turbine with a four-blade soft-in-plane main rotor. Six seats, 133 knots and roughly 324 nautical miles of range. It is one of the most widely operated turbine helicopters in the world.

Why the Bell 407 Fits Los Angeles

Fleet depth is what the 407 offers a Los Angeles client. It is the helicopter most likely to be available at short notice across the basin, which matters when a schedule moves on the day and the alternative is a drive across town at the wrong hour.

Six seats covers the common jobs: an executive group from the Westside out to Ontario or John Wayne, a family transfer, a connection into a waiting jet at Van Nuys. Ontario is the useful one on a late return, since it runs 24 hours with no curfew.

The four-blade rotor is the passenger-facing difference against a Jet Ranger. Less vibration through the airframe on a twenty-minute leg is not a small thing for anyone who has flown the older aircraft and disliked it.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
