The Beechjet 400A is one of the older light jets still working the Los Angeles market every week, and it holds its place on price. For seven or eight passengers inside 1,500 nautical miles of Van Nuys it is a value option rather than a compromise.
Beechcraft, under Raytheon and later Hawker Beechcraft, built the 400A from 1990 through 2003 as the successor to the Mitsubishi Diamond II. Two Pratt and Whitney JT15D-5 turbofans, a stand-up cabin trimmed for seven or eight, 449 knots and a 45,000-foot ceiling. Baggage volume is 56 cubic feet, which is tight by modern light-jet standards. Why the Beechjet 400A Fits Los Angeles
The 1,500-nautical-mile range covers the trips Los Angeles clients actually book on this size of aircraft: Las Vegas, NV, Palm Springs, Napa, CA, Santa Barbara, Denver and Seattle. Los Cabos, Mexico is inside the envelope as a cross-border leg. Aspen, CO in winter is the one to talk through, because mountain fields carry their own operator approvals and the aircraft on the ramp is not always the aircraft that is approved.
The belted lavatory is worth raising before anyone boards. On a 45-minute run to Las Vegas, NV nobody notices. On a four-hour repositioning to the Rockies with a full cabin, guests used to the enclosed lavatory on a CJ3 or a Phenom 300 will, and it is a better conversation to have at quote stage.
That 56 cubic feet of baggage is the other honest limit. Eight passengers with ski bags out of Van Nuys does not fit, and we would rather move you to a Citation V than watch the crew leave luggage on the ramp.
