Cessna re-engined the Citation V with Pratt and Whitney PW535A turbofans to create the Encore, adding a new wing, trailing-link landing gear and an updated flight deck. Cruise rises to 430 knots against the V’s 397, seating stays at seven to eight, and range is 1,750 nautical miles. Why the Cessna Citation Encore Fits Los Angeles
Thirty-three knots does not sound like much until it is a Los Angeles to Denver leg twice in a day. The Encore claws back real time against a Citation V or a Citation Bravo on anything longer than the Las Vegas, NV hop, which is why it holds a premium over both.
Trailing-link gear gives the Encore a softer arrival than most aircraft in this category, and clients who fly it once tend to ask for it again. For the Malibu and Beverly Hills leisure pattern out of Van Nuys, that detail carries more weight than the speed does.
Palm Springs during Coachella in April is where the Encore’s combination of eight seats and speed gets scarce. The desert fleet is picked over weeks in advance, and a request in March for an April weekend is a different market from the same request in January.
