Light Jets

Light jets are the workhorse category of the Los Angeles charter market and the largest group on this site. Five to nine seats, 1,400 to 2,125 nautical miles of range, and cruise speeds from 385 to 465 knots. Most trips that leave Van Nuys in the morning and come back the same evening leave on one of these.

Typical Aircraft

The Cessna Citation line runs deepest here, from the older Citation II through the Bravo, CJ2, CJ3, Citation V and Encore. The Learjet 31, 35 and 40 bring speed, the Learjet 35 the longest legs in the category. The Hawker 400XP and Beechjet 400A carry eight, the Premier 1A carries the widest cabin, and the Falcon 10 is the fast, small-cabin outlier.

When Light Jets Fit the Los Angeles Trip

Las Vegas, NV, Palm Springs, the Bay Area, Napa, CA, Denver, Seattle, Dallas and Los Cabos, Mexico all work from Los Angeles on a light jet. Aspen, CO in winter is possible on the right aircraft, but mountain fields carry operator-held approvals and seasonal performance limits, so we confirm the aircraft and crew are approved before quoting.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Across the 16 light jets listed on this page, industry hourly rates run $3,000 to $5,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Each aircraft page carries its own rate. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

Los Angeles Patterns We Plan Around

Awards season runs January through March and it is the single biggest pressure on Southern California charter availability. Van Nuys and Hollywood Burbank get picked over first, and a January request made in December is a very different market from the same request made on the day. Coachella in April does the same thing to Palm Springs. Van Nuys operates a jet noise curfew for louder aircraft between roughly 10pm and 7am, while Ontario runs 24 hours with no curfew, which is why so many late departures end up there.

Baggage is where light jets most often disappoint on a Los Angeles trip. Eight passengers with ski bags is a different aircraft from eight passengers with overnight bags, and we would rather sort that at quote stage than on the ramp.

The hourly rates provided are estimates based on 2026 market data and are for informational purposes only. These figures are subject to change and do not constitute a final offer. Final pricing is dynamic and depends on real-time factors including, but not limited to, specific itinerary requirements, aircraft positioning (“ferry” fees), fuel price volatility, and current market availability.
