Gulfstream V / G500 / G550

The Gulfstream G550 has flown more long-range business trips than almost any other aircraft, and out of Los Angeles it remains the dependable choice for a Pacific or European crossing. Fourteen to sixteen passengers and 6,750 nautical miles of range.

Gulfstream developed the G550 from the Gulfstream V with Rolls-Royce BR710 engines, PlaneView avionics and an enhanced vision system. Fourteen to sixteen seats, a cruise around Mach 0.80 and 6,750 nautical miles of range. Full specifications for the Gulfstream G550 are published by Gulfstream Aerospace.

Why the Gulfstream G550 Fits Los Angeles

Six thousand seven hundred and fifty nautical miles puts most of the world within one leg of Los Angeles, and unlike the newer aircraft in this category the G550 charter fleet is large. That combination of reach and availability is why it still wins so much of this work.

It is slower than a G650 at around Mach 0.80, and the cabin is narrower. On a Los Angeles to Asia crossing that difference is real, and the price gap between the two aircraft is usually large enough that clients make the trade knowingly.

The enhanced vision system on this generation helps at marginal airports and in poor conditions, which matters more on the far end of an international trip than it does departing Southern California.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Industry hourly rates for the Gulfstream G550 run $11,000 to $14,000 per hour as of 7/2026. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

The G550 quotes below the G650 for range that is nearly as long, which on most Los Angeles intercontinental trips makes it the better-value aircraft of the two.
