Turboprops do the Los Angeles regional work that jets do badly. Four to fourteen seats, 840 to 1,806 nautical miles, pressurized cabins on most, and the ability to use runways that would send a jet to a different airport and leave the client with a drive.
Typical Aircraft
The Beechcraft King Air 200 is the most chartered turboprop in the world and the King Air 350 the largest, at up to eleven seats. The King Air 90 is the regional entry point. The Pilatus PC-12 reaches furthest at 1,803 nautical miles and takes awkward loads through a rear cargo door, the Piaggio Avanti cruises at light-jet speed, and the Cessna Grand Caravan carries up to fourteen with a cargo pod underneath.
When Turboprops Fit the Los Angeles Trip
Santa Barbara, Camarillo, Oxnard, Chino, Mammoth, the Central Coast, the high desert and Las Vegas, NV. Catalina is the standout: the island’s airport caps aircraft at 12,500 pounds, permits no jets and operates in daylight only, which leaves light turboprops and pistons. Whether a specific aircraft qualifies is the operator’s confirmation.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Charter Pricing Reference
Across the 15 turboprops listed on this page, industry hourly rates run $1,500 to $3,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Each aircraft page carries its own rate. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.
Los Angeles Patterns We Plan Around
Awards season runs January through March and it is the single biggest pressure on Southern California charter availability. Van Nuys and Hollywood Burbank get picked over first, and a January request made in December is a very different market from the same request made on the day. Coachella in April does the same thing to Palm Springs. Van Nuys operates a jet noise curfew for louder aircraft between roughly 10pm and 7am, while Ontario runs 24 hours with no curfew, which is why so many late departures end up there.
Apple Valley is worth naming for high-desert trips. It sits at roughly 3,062 feet of elevation where density altitude on a hot afternoon changes what any aircraft can lift, and aircraft over 12,500 pounds need prior permission.
