Los Angeles Patterns We Plan Around
Awards season runs January through March and it is the single biggest pressure on Southern California charter availability. Van Nuys and Hollywood Burbank get picked over first, and a January request made in December is a very different market from the same request made on the day. Coachella in April does the same thing to Palm Springs. Van Nuys operates a jet noise curfew for louder aircraft between roughly 10pm and 7am, while Ontario runs 24 hours with no curfew, which is why so many late departures end up there.
The Citation Sovereign is the aircraft to ask about if the trip starts nearer Santa Barbara or Ventura County than Van Nuys. Its field performance keeps the shorter Southern California runways usable on an aircraft with genuine coast-to-coast range.
