Heavy Jets

Heavy jets are the category Los Angeles groups move to when the cabin has to be lived in. Eight to nineteen seats, 2,800 to 4,220 nautical miles, stand-up cabins wide enough to walk down, and separate zones on most layouts.

Typical Aircraft

The Bombardier Challenger family runs from the 600 and 601 through the 604 and 605, and the 604 is one of the most requested aircraft on the market. The Dassault Falcon 2000 and the three-engine Falcon 900 bring short-field ability and speed. The Gulfstream II, III and IV carry the longest range in the category, and the Embraer Legacy 600 carries the most passengers and the most luggage.

When Heavy Jets Fit the Los Angeles Trip

Los Angeles to New York, Miami, the Caribbean and northern South America nonstop with a working payload. The Gulfstream IV reaches furthest at 4,220 nautical miles; the earlier Challengers and Gulfstreams are shorter-legged and the westbound transcontinental return is where that shows first.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Charter Pricing Reference

Across the 17 heavy jets listed on this page, industry hourly rates run $6,500 to $11,500 per hour as of 7/2026. Each aircraft page carries its own rate. Actual quotes vary by operator, routing, positioning, and date.

Los Angeles Patterns We Plan Around

Awards season runs January through March and it is the single biggest pressure on Southern California charter availability. Van Nuys and Hollywood Burbank get picked over first, and a January request made in December is a very different market from the same request made on the day. Coachella in April does the same thing to Palm Springs. Van Nuys operates a jet noise curfew for louder aircraft between roughly 10pm and 7am, while Ontario runs 24 hours with no curfew, which is why so many late departures end up there.

Engine generation matters for late departures. The Rolls-Royce Spey engines on the Gulfstream II and III are loud by current standards, and Van Nuys operates a jet noise curfew for louder aircraft while Long Beach runs a noise-budget slot system. Ontario, open 24 hours with no curfew and with 12,197 feet of runway, is usually the cleaner answer.
